Josh Prokosch
Head Coach - Varsity

Coach Prokosch has been leading Blaine Wrestling as Head Coach since the 2011-2012 season, bringing energy, dedication, and a passion for developing athletes of all levels. Before joining Blaine, he spent seven years as an Assistant Coach at Osseo and Park Center High Schools, building a strong foundation in coaching and mentorship.

Coach Prokosch graduated from Crown College in 2009 with a double major and a minor while also serving as a Teaching Assistant, Resident Assistant, and Football Captain. His outstanding contributions to football earned him induction into the Crown College Athletics Hall of Fame in 2015.

At Blaine High School, Coach Prokosch not only leads the wrestling program but also teaches Physical Education, coaches football, serves as the Athletics Strength and Conditioning Coordinator, and manages the Summer Weights Program. He is furthering his expertise by pursuing a Masters of Education in Applied Kinesiology with an emphasis in Sports and Exercise Science from the University of Minnesota.

Outside of school, Coach Prokosch trains in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, continually expanding his skills and knowledge in martial arts. His commitment, experience, and passion for athletics make him an inspiring leader for Blaine athletes both on and off the mat.

John Sundgren
Assistant Coach - Varsity

Coach Sundgren is a lifelong Minnesota wrestler whose passion for the sport started at age 6 in Coon Rapids. He honed his skills at Blaine High School, where he became a 3x state placer, taking second as a sophomore at 103 lbs, fifth as a junior at 119 lbs, and second as a senior at 140 lbs.

After high school, John continued his wrestling career at St. Cloud State University, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing while achieving incredible success on the mat. He was a 2x NCAA DII All-American and captured a National Championship at 157 lbs. John also distinguished himself academically as a four-time Academic All-American and served as team captain for his final three seasons, demonstrating leadership both on and off the mat.

Following college, John began his coaching career at Kimball High School, where he lead the team to a second place finish at the Minnesota Class A State Tournament in 2011-2012. Coach Sundgren coached wrestling at Spring Lake Park High School from 2013 to 2016, before returning to back to his alma mater, Blaine High School, where he has been sharing his experience, knowledge, and enthusiasm ever since.

Coach Sundgren brings elite-level experience, a deep understanding of wrestling, and a relentless drive to help Blaine athletes reach their full potential.

Don Studer
Assistant Coach - Varsity

Coach Studer began his wrestling journey in Sherburn at Martin County West, where he made history as the school’s first State Champion and was a two-time state individual entrant. He was also a member of two state tournament teams and earned recognition as the school’s first team Academic All-State.

Don continued his wrestling career at the University of St. Thomas, where he was a four-year starter. He reached the MIAC Conference finals three times, capturing the championship once, and qualified for the national tournament all four years. His junior year earned him All-American honors, and he was named a finalist for the Tommy Award, which recognizes outstanding seniors. Unfortunately, an injury ended his senior season before the national tournament.

After college, Don began coaching at Totino Grace, serving as the Head Freshman Coach and Assistant Varsity Coach for four years. Since 2006, he has been a dedicated member of the Blaine Wrestling Program, bringing his experience, knowledge, and enthusiasm to inspire and develop wrestlers.

Chad Gutenkauf
Assistant Coach - Varsity

Coach Chad is a wrestling standout whose passion for the sport has inspired athletes for decades. Growing up in Pierre, South Dakota, Chad was a four-time State High School individual qualifier, capturing the State Championship in 1984. He finished his high school career with an impressive 127-23-5 record and was inducted into his High School Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2012.

Chad continued his wrestling journey at South Dakota State University, where he became a 4x North Central Conference place winner and qualified for the NCAA Division 2 National Tournament three times. His dedication, skill, and competitive drive made him a standout both on and off the mat.

Today, Coach Chad brings that same energy and knowledge to mentoring young wrestlers, helping them develop their skills, build confidence, and achieve their goals. His experience, passion, and commitment make him an invaluable part of the Blaine Wrestling family.

Jake Keller
Assistant Coach - Varsity

Coach Jake is a 2014 Blaine High School graduate who wrestled varsity all four years. His passion for the sport began in 2009 when he joined the freestyle and Greco program, where he quickly developed a love for wrestling. Throughout high school, he placed in sections each year and built a lasting connection to the Blaine wrestling community.

After graduation, Coach Jake served four and a half years in the Army National Guard as an 11B Infantryman with the 1-194 Armored Regiment. He began his coaching journey in 2018 as the head coach at Roosevelt Middle School, leading for two seasons before returning to the Blaine High School program as an assistant coach in 2022.

Coach Jake is passionate about mentoring young athletes, helping them grow both on and off the mat, and giving back to the community and program that helped shape him.
